Locking

back to guides

It's a terrible mistake not to lock your chromebook (or shut it off). I left my computer open once in class while I had to go to the bathroom. Rookie mistake.

Someone deleted all my files. like ALL of them. So let me teach you guys to lock your chromebook away and when your ready, quickly get back ontask (or offtask).

0.5. can you actually do it though

For some dumb reason, CrOS actually lets administrators disable locking your computer yourself. Stupid, right?

You can see if your able to do it in the section up-ahead.

1. actually doing it

Click the time on the taskbar to open up the action menu.

Once you see the menu pop up, click the power button on the bottom left of the menu (make sure theres a arrow next to it!) to access the dialog that pops out.

You should see options like Shut Down and Restart, but check if you have a "Lock" button. If you do, congrats! If you don't... Well it isn't gonna work for you on that account. Just press it every time you want to lock.

2. a quicker way

If you don't have time to open up your menu and lock from there, a keybind exists to lock it and you can change it too.

Normally, it's Search (or Launcher) + L. Sometimes it will be bound to something else. You can go to "Key Shortcuts" on your chromebook to change it to something you like.

You've reached the end of this guide.
